Mrs S-F and I have been experimenting in the kitchen and tasting wines in preparation of our first supper club evening. It is safe to say that the menu is now locked down and we are looking forward to firing up the range and preparing a meal of epic proportions.
Our friends are bringing the wine, and we have been supper organised by emailing out suggested wines for each of the five courses.
Menu will be posted after the evening, along with recipes and feedback from our guests will be welcome although it is likely that Sunday will be spent in recovery mode on the sofa under the weekend papers.

Observational question.
What makes two people hit it off and become friends?
I seem to have a wealth of potential answers but no real clue!

Taste and Presentation- a modern dichotomy
So finally the reins have been handed over.
Mr F does not know this yet but the food/ wine experiments being currently carried out in the mothership (aka chez S-F kitchen) may be an early indication of this. Said mothership has been transformed into a highly efficient, technical and sometimes dangerous laboratory where those who enter do so at their own peril.
I wanted to discuss something that troubles me whilst dishing out at dinner parties. I am a firm believer in never giving our guests fully assembled plates. By this i mean food already dished up by the time it makes it's way to said guest.
In our house we prefer the "place and pinch" approach which allows everybody to take as much or as little as they would like from the table. The only problem I find is that presentation goes out the window: no room for the delicately drizzled dressing or the poetically placed pomegranate but quite frankly sod it if it tastes good (let's hope it does!), wine is flowing and guests are having a good time.
Over and out from the chief technician.

Invitations sent and responses received
The invitations have been sent, and the responses have been received and thankfully we have friends who agree that the idea of a supper club is a good one.
The menu for the first supper club event is taking shape, with Mrs S-F happily in the kitchen experimenting.
I have been looking at the wine society website and will be emailing out nearer the event with suggestions on wine for people to bring.
Now back to the kitchen!

The Invitations have been issued
We have been brave, chosen four of our closest friends, and have invited them to the first of our supper club gatherings.
Two have already said yes - in fact they jumped at the chance within minutes of receiving the email requesting their company.
We do hope N & K are able to come and join us.

Rules and Regulation of the Garden Supper Club
Like all new ventures it helps if there are some ground rules. So,
1. Rule number one - there are no rules.
2. Rule number two - rule number one is bunkum and to be ignored, as there should always be a rule that is ignored.
3. Rule number three - each invited guest is to bring one guest with them who Mr F and Mrs S-F do not know yet.
4. Rule number four - each guest pair is to bring a bottle of wine with them from a short list provided by the hosts.
5. Rule number five - should anyone suffer from allergies that could propel you into anaphalactic shock please warn us in advance as otherwise we can not be responsible.
6. Rule number six - all food will be gluten free.
7. Rule number seven - whilst there is no charge for the evening, a guest book and anonymous donation box will be available in our entrance hall to allow guests to pay what they feel the evening was worth.
8. Rule number eight - everyone is to have a good time by respecting everyone's opinions and views, and outrageous statements must be backed up with evidence, or at the very least sound convincing.
Management (Mrs S-F) reserve the right to refuse admission or to remove an individual should they be upsetting the menu.

We have moved in - let the supper club experience begin
It has been a fair few months since we last posted, and the reason for that is that we have been very busy working on the final details for our new home.
The flat has turned out better than we could have hoped, and the kitchen - the most important room of the apartment - is perfect. Our range is wonderful, and has already been used several times.
So now that we have moved in, have delivery dates for our new furniture, and have started enjoying the new kitchen it is time to for our supper club story to start.
The intention is for us to expand our circle of friends and to try out new recipes. All food will be gluten free, as I am a coeliac, but otherwise everyone who comes is expected to enjoy good food and wine. In short individuals who enjoy good food and wine are welcome at our dinning table. Those of you who have a limited palate may feel that this is not for you. We would hope that you would give it a try and agree to widen your food horizons with us.
Our two cats, Framboise and Fraise, will welcome you to our home and will then watch us from the garden. Due to our two felines piriton is available on request, but you might wish to take some in advance.
Mrs S-F and I are working on the menu for our first supper club, and we look forward to unveiling it to you.
